schizophrenia
n. 1. (psychiatry)
a severe psychotic disorder characterized by
some combination of delusions, hallucinations, incoherent speech or behavior,
and emotional instability. The usual treatment is powerful, addictive mind-altering
drugs with numerous side effects, even though there is a vast body of research that
indicates that schizophrenics recover best (or at least as well) when they are put in a safe setting with
people who care about them and just talk to them and do not drug them.
