emergency
n. 1. (business) a situation requiring quick,
heroic action to avert danger. Instinctively the sane individual confronted with a financial emergency
in his life increases his output, promotes like crazy, and burns the midnight oil. In the world of big
business, however, Monstro, Inc., when confronted by an emergency, reduces its output, cuts back on
promotion, and fires people. This is one of the main reasons that it takes so little time for Monstro
to turn into Minnow – and then to get eaten.
